Security Deposit

In Chicago, your landlord must put your security deposit in a bank account that earns interest. They must give you a receipt when you pay it, and they must return it within 45 days of moving out. If your landlord deducts for damages, they must provide a list and receipts within 30 days.

If they don’t, you might get double your deposit back plus interest. If you need help, fill out this form. We will generate a letter you can mail to your landlord.
